US weekly raw steel production jumps 2.3 percent

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Monday that US raw steel production increased last week (ended December 3) by 2.3 percent compared to the previous week.
 
Total raw steel production in the United States amounted to 1,857,000 net tons (nt) last week, representing a 2.3 percent jump from the 1,815,000 nt produced in the previous week, and a 9.4 percent increase from the 1,697,000 nt produced in the same week of last year.
 
The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 74.9 percent in the week ending December 3, compared to 73.3 percent in the previous week and 70.2 percent in the same week of last year.
